Tesco in the community.

We are proud that our supermarkets and staff are embedded in their communities.

Community Food Connection

Community Food Connection is the biggest supermarket surplus food redistribution scheme in the UK. Over 145 million meals have been donated since 2016 and more than 3,900 charities regularly supported from our stores. At the end of each day, stores send a message to say what surplus food is available. FareShare supported groups or OLIO ‘Food Waste Heroes’ collect the food from stores, free of charge, taking all or part of the donation. As well as providing meals for the people the charities support, the redistributed food also reduces food waste.

Food donations

We also encourage customers to donate food through Food Collection events and collection points in our stores. Donated food goes to our charity partners the Trussell Trust and FareShare, who help to feed people in communities. Last year our annual Winter Food Collection provided 2.4 million meals, including 171,896 in North Cornwall.

Tesco Community Grants

Since 2016, we have awarded in excess of £110 million in grants to over 50,000 local community projects in the UK to fight holiday hunger and support mental health and young people.

In North Cornwall, we have donated £331,787 to 166 separate projects since 2016.

We are refocussing our local grants programme on supporting young people and schools, which will in future be known as Stronger Starts.
